A trio of AeroGarden indoor smart gardens is on sale for Earth Day – CNET

This story is part of Mother’s Day Gift Guide 2021. CNET editors round up the hottest gadgets for Mom this year.

If you’ve been eyeing an indoor smart garden for Mom — or yourself — to grow fresh herbs and produce any time of the year, a trio of AeroGardens in various sizes are on sale at Best Buy for Earth Day. AeroGarden’s smaller, sleeker AeroGarden Sprout indoor smart garden is down to $70 (normally $100), while the larger Farm XL 12 and Farm XL 24 — perfect for more serious indoor gardening — are also marked down for today only.

We’ve tested plenty of indoor gardens including some AeroGarden models and they work surprisingly well, especially for growing herbs, lettuce and flowers. Vegetables can be a bit trickier but if you (or Mom) would make use of fresh basil, parsley, mint or greens like spinach and lettuce, this is the perfect place to grow them year-round. These self-contained pod gardens do all the watering for you and the LEDs mean you can put them anywhere — even a room with no windows.

Let’s zoom in on the three discounted indoor smart gardens. Each is eligible for free shipping and will arrive well before Mother’s Day (hint, hint).

This is the smallest, sleekest AeroGarden and so perfect for dipping your toe into the smart garden waters or if you live in a smaller space. The self-contained seed pods mean no mess, and the Sprout provides both water and light via LEDs to keep plants in constant bloom. The kit even comes with three pods to get you started: Genovese basil, curly parsley and dill, plus a 3-ounce bottle of plant nutrients.

If you’re looking for something a bit more serious, the AeroGarden Farm is just that. This indoor smart garden has the space to grow full tomato vines and as many as 12 different plants at once. Like all AeroGardens, it’s a fully contained garden system that automatically delivers both light and water, so your plants thrive without much effort from you. There’s even an app to guide you and it’s all compatible with Amazon Echo. You can also use the touchscreen control panel to grow plants as tall as three feet.
