Peacemaker

In conversation with THR, James Gunn once again stated he felt Peacemaker was the best choice for a Suicide Squad spinoff as the character still “has a lot to learn.”

At the end of The Suicide Squad, [Idris Elba’s] Bloodsport learns a lot. He’s a better person than he was at the beginning. A lot of the characters are much better than they were at the beginning, and Peacemaker has a lot to learn. It’s that ability to learn that for me makes him a little bit more likable. His blind spots in some places are pretty terrible, and in some places are him being ignorant. I think that’s an important distinction to make as well. He is open at the same time, sometimes.

The Sam Neill-Starring Invasion Looks Like Every Alien Invasion Movie Rolled Into One

Invasion Trailer: Sam Neill Stars in Apple TV+ Alien Series

Kinberg is the big name producer but the show is also from David Weil (Hunters) with all 10 episodes directed by Jakob Verbruggen (The Alienist). It’s a stacked list of talent, to be sure, and the idea of a big-budget, well-paced series about an alien invasion is rather appetizing. The possibilities are endless, especially once you get into how and/or if the aliens and humans interact and where things might go from there. From this trailer, you can definitely see that these first 10 episodes will be about how the Earth changes, in all ways, with these new aliens.

As for the aliens themselves, they feel almost floral, do they not? Like something out of the third act of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad? Their ability to communicate—both with the characters and the audience—in a dramatic way could be a big part of if Invasion works or does not. It’s hard to tell if they’ll be memorable from this trailer.

But that’s kind of Apple TV+’s M.O. at this point. Most of its shows, even new Emmy winner Ted Lasso, don’t explode out of the gate. Shows like Central Park, Mythic Quest, and For All Mankind arrived with relatively no fanfare and have since built up big, passionate fanbases because they’re genuinely well-done. That’s gotta be the hope and expectation for Invasion as well.

Invasion’s first three episodes debut on Apple TV+ October 22, with the remaining episodes arriving each subsequent Friday. Are you gonna watch? Let us know below.

The Suicide Squad’s Gag Reel Is Finger-Lickin’ Good

The Suicide Squad Movie Gag Reel Is 4 Minutes of Hilarity

For some reason, the thing that gives me the most joy is Michael Rooker, laughing so hard he can barely squeak out a few words, while wearing that unfathomably dumb Savant wig. My second favorite part is how Warner Bros. felt it necessary to bleep out the gag reel’s dirty words for a movie that was extremely R-rated, including the dialogue (which was also written by James Gunn).

The Suicide Squad, which also starred Viola Davis, Joel Kinnaman, Peter Capaldi, Daniela Melchior, Alice Braga, Jai Courtney, Pete Davidson, Nathan Fillion, and many more, is unfortunately no longer streaming on HBO Max, having left the streaming service on September 5, and it won’t be available on Blu-ray until October 26. But you can still rent it on Amazon or iTunes for the not inconsiderable sum of $24.99.

[A full musical episode] would have been fun. I know. It would have been fun. And I will say that, between takes, Melissa and I do a tremendous amount of singing. But no, I know. It’s a shame. It’s a shame that this is a weird solo number, where they also picked weirdly one of the people with, like, probably the least amazing singing voice. But I do make up for it in super, super high kicking. So there is that.

Evil

In conversation with TV Line, Evil co-executive producer Robert King promised the acidic goop Kristen released last week is entirely metaphorical.

It’s partly a joke because it’s partly Alien, the movie. It was supposed to be like the acid that comes out, and it burns through everything. In fact, at the end credits, we were going to do one thing where you’re in China, the Great Wall, and it burns through an upside-down Great Wall, and it just felt like, no. [Laughs]

There’s three ways the supernatural happens on our show. One way is that it’s in a vision. The other way is, it’s metaphor. And the third way is it’s [Kristen], usually with a bad medication, and seeing things that aren’t there. I would put that in the world of metaphor.

There’s something going on with [Kristen], the way she’s using sex that makes it burn right through her kitchen into her basement. I mean, makes me laugh even saying that! But yes, I have a feeling that will be a weird one, because it doesn’t seem to come back. We had a lot of debate about it… Anyway, it feels sometimes like the show nudges its way toward some kind of metaphor that you want to grab not as literally, but… it sets a tone. I would put that in the world of “sets a tone”.

Titans

Curran Walters spoke to TV Line about Jason Todd’s new career as Red Hood in the third season of Titans.

Red Hood, man…. Where do I start? Jason’s mission this season is to get rid of this fear that he has, and the only way that he feels he can conquer this fear is by, in a way, hitting back as a Titan but with a different outcome — if that makes sense. Throughout this season, there’s a lot of finding who he is as a character.

It’s obviously not something you want as a superhero family. The other Titans try to figure out what to do with Red Hood the whole season, and that’s a great dynamic of the show — exploring the relationships these characters have with Jason and now the ‘new’ Jason.

Peacemaker

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, James Gunn stated Peacemaker was his top choice for a spinoff series becauseunlike the rest of the castthe character “is a douche and he stays a douche and he’s an asshole in the movie.”

Well, I think that it’s a number of things. In the movie… Harley gets a really complete story about herself, she gets a complete arc. Bloodsport gets a complete story. Rick Flag gets a complete story. Ratcatcher 2 gets a complete story. They all learn something about themselves — sometimes good things, sometimes bad things — but Peacemaker is a douche and he stays a douche and he’s an asshole in the movie.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Meanwhile, actress Indira Varma described the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series as “an octopus that needs wrangling, however, “there are no fraying tempers” on set.

It’s such a beast, like an octopus that needs wrangling but I’m having a brilliant time. Obviously, I can’t say anything about any of it but director Deborah Chow and Ewan on the acting side have somehow made it feel like an independent movie. Everyone has input, there are no fraying tempers.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Adds Idris Elba as Knuckles

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Knuckles: Idris Elba to Voice Character

There was also this title announcement, which once again hammered home the point that Tails will be a big part of the movie.

Elba is having a fairly solid week. In addition to this brand new franchise going under his belt, he’s getting great reviews for his work at Bloodsport in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, another franchise he could very well end up communing in the future. But you have to think, if Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is a hit, we’ll probably get Sonic 3, 4, 5, who knows. And you know Knuckles will be along for the ride.

Peacemaker

In an interview with THR, James Gunn revealed the Peacemaker TV series will see the character debate “what’s going on in the world” with Danielle Brooks’ character, Leota Adebayo.

There are a lot of similarities to The Suicide Squad in that it’s no holds barred, but there are also a lot of things that are very different, in that it’s quieter in some ways. It’s very specifically about a different group of people, so it’s a little bit more about society.

One of the leads is Peacemaker and one of the leads is Danielle Brooks, who plays Leota Adebayo. And she has a very different political view of the world than Peacemaker does. So it’s just a little bit about what’s going on in the world, but also being a TV show, you really do have more time to delve much deeper into these characters and much more deeply into the drama and comedy of them. So it has a lot of similarities [to The Suicide Squad], but it’s even more grounded, more natural and more real. But it’s still within a big science-fiction storyline that lasts for one season.
