The Last Will and Testament of Charles Abernathy

Rachel Nichols will star alongside Peyton List, Bob Gunton, Austin Stowell, Briana Middleton, David Walton, and Reese Alexander in Alejandro Brugués (Juan of the Dead, Nightmare Cinema, Pooka Lives!) latest horror movie, The Last Will and Testament of Charles Abernathy. Based on a script by Joe Russo and Chris LaMont, the film follows “billionaire Charles Abernathy (Gunton) who, on the eve of his 75th birthday, invites his four estranged children back home out of fear that tonight someone—or something—is coming to kill him. To ensure his family will help protect him from whatever’s coming, Abernathy puts each of their inheritances on the line—they’ll get nothing if he’s found dead by dawn.” [Deadline]

Fantastic Four

Emily Blunt denied to Insider she’s been cast as Susan “The Invisible Woman” Storm-Richards in the MCU’s upcoming Fantastic Four movie.

That is fan-casting. No one has received a phone call. That’s just people saying, ‘Wouldn’t that be great?’ I love Iron Man, and when I got offered Black Widow, I was obsessed with Iron Man. I wanted to work with Robert Downey Jr. It would’ve been amazing. But I don’t know if superhero movies are for me. They’re not up my alley. I don’t like them. I really don’t. It’s been exhausted. We are inundated—it’s not only all the movies, it’s the endless TV shows as well. It’s not to say that I’d never want to play one, it would just have to be something so cool and like a really cool character, and then I’d be interested.

Birds of Prey 2

According to Margot Robbie, there’s currently “no sequel in the works” to Birds of Prey.

I don’t know if that is on the horizon anytime soon. I don’t think it’s a no. But no, there’s no sequel in the works that I’m aware of at this stage.

This is the fifth one… it’s not Scream 5, though. This is Scream. The directors are incredible, they’re making it absolutely… it’s a new franchise. It’s hip. It’s scary. It’s just a new Scream. It’s not a reboot, it’s not a remake, it’s just a brand new launch. I think it’s gonna be fantastic.

Supergirl

Jason Behr described this week’s midseason finale of Supergirl as “the most intense episode” he’s been a part of during a recent interview with TV Line.

This is definitely the most intense episode of Supergirl that I’ve been a part of.I t seems like all hope is lost and yet, there is that little kernel, and they’re all racing against the clock because the Phantom Zone is crumbling before their very eyes. The idea behind the Phantoms is that when they come into contact with you, all of your worst fears and nightmares are real, and you see the worst of your imagination come to life. All the Super Friends experience something like that.

Orphan: First Kill

Meanwhile, Brent Bell appeared as a guest on Bloody-Disgusting’s Boo Crew Podcast to discuss the “childlike” yet “extremely violent” tone of the upcoming Orphan prequel starring Isabelle Fuhrman as Esther.

The movie has a very childlike quality in some ways, but it’s also extremely violent at other times. Because she’s a violent psychopath. The movie is turning out just awesome. [Esther] is this very romantic person who so much wants love and then when she doesn’t get it, a different side of her comes out. And it’s brutal. So the movie really plays both of those sides really well. So it has a really big heart for her, but it also has a real… super dark side. We’re right in the final stages of finishing the movie.

Lady Killer

According to Deadline, Diablo Cody is attached to write an adaptation of the Dark Horse comic book series, Lady Killer, written by Joëlle Jones and Jamie S. Rich, illustrated by Joëlle Jones, and colored by Laura Allred. The project is for Netflix with Blake Lively attached to star. Lively will play Josie Schuller, “by all appearances the perfect 1950’s housewife— but when she’s not catering to the needs of her family, she leads a secret life as a highly-trained killer for hire. She really likes the second job, and her husband has no idea.”

Indiana Jones 5

During a recent interview with Collider, Mads Mikkelsen stated he was “invited in to create” his Indiana Jones 5 character.

I do think I’m invited in to create a character, I think that everybody wants that. That’s why they pick certain actors that they think can come up with certain things, and it will be a collaboration as it always is. Interesting enough, again a little like Riders of Justice, there is kind of a genre mix in Indiana Jones always. There is something that is a little larger-than-life, almost back to the 30s with a Peter Lorre kind of feel, and then you have Indiana Jones who kind of is a straight man. But he does produce a lot of funny and interesting things, but there are different character genres in some of those films.

Killer Klowns from Outer Space 2

Appearing as a guest on Slasher Radio, Stephen Chiodo revealed 2019’s Critters Attack! was partially responsible for the cancelation of Syfy’s planned Killer Klowns from Outer Space sequel.

There was a deal… MGM controls the rights…and they went to SYFY. They did Critters, and you saw what that turned out to be like. But they wanted to do Klowns for like two million [dollars]. And we don’t want to do that…we did it for two million back in the ’80s. So we didn’t want to do it. And even MGM didn’t want to do it… they said it was a more valuable property than just signing off for that little money.

Nintendo Movies

During a recent interview with Fast Company, Nintendo’s Shuntaro Furukawa said the company plans to develop more films based on its library of games following the release of Illumination’s upcoming Super Mario Bros. movie.

Animation, in general, is something that we are looking into, and not just this [Super Mario] franchise. Although the ways we are expanding our IP are increasing, we are very, very careful about where and how our IP is licensed. We are not deploying our characters and worlds merely to increase public exposure.

Vamprechaun

Meanwhile, Leprechaun creator Mark Jones sat down with Bloody-Disgusting to discuss—at length—his plans for a vampiric leprechaun movie. Click through for more.

Well, it’s an original creation. Anybody can do a movie with a leprechaun. And it’s not going to be a movie with Warwick Davis playing the same character from the Leprechaun movies. I’ve always looked at Vamprechaun as a standalone. If Warwick wants to do it, great. I’d love to have Warwick. But he’s certainly not locked in and attached. And it would work without him. But if Lionsgate wants to make a new deal for Vamprechaun, then I’d certainly be happy to talk with them.
