The Suicide Squad’s Gag Reel Is Finger-Lickin’ Good

The Suicide Squad Movie Gag Reel Is 4 Minutes of Hilarity

For some reason, the thing that gives me the most joy is Michael Rooker, laughing so hard he can barely squeak out a few words, while wearing that unfathomably dumb Savant wig. My second favorite part is how Warner Bros. felt it necessary to bleep out the gag reel’s dirty words for a movie that was extremely R-rated, including the dialogue (which was also written by James Gunn).

The Suicide Squad, which also starred Viola Davis, Joel Kinnaman, Peter Capaldi, Daniela Melchior, Alice Braga, Jai Courtney, Pete Davidson, Nathan Fillion, and many more, is unfortunately no longer streaming on HBO Max, having left the streaming service on September 5, and it won’t be available on Blu-ray until October 26. But you can still rent it on Amazon or iTunes for the not inconsiderable sum of $24.99.

As Corbo and his team of veteran security professionals investigate the rocket disaster, they expose a lethal conspiracy of Swann’s corporate rivals, corrupt government officials, and a shadowy crime syndicate — all working to destroy Swann and take control of his tech empire. She-Hulk

Tim Roth discussed Abomination’s upcoming role in She-Hulk during a recent interview with THR.

I did The Incredible Hulk years ago, just because I thought my kids would be embarrassed by it. I did it for them and I really enjoyed making it. So when they came to me and said: ‘We’re adapting the She-Hulk thing. Can you come back as that character again?’ I was like, sure. It should be fun. I was very surprised though because it was difficult at first. It was only when Mark Ruffalo came in to shoot his stuff [reprising his role as Bruce Banner] that I went: ‘Oh, that’s how you do it! With a sense of humor!’

Lord of the Rings ‘Ultimate Collector’s Edition’ Isn’t That Ultimate: It’s Missing the Appendices

Lord of the Rings and Hobbit 4K Collection Has No Appendices

This single disc does not contain the contents found in the 12 discs of amazing extras—two per movie—found in the original Extended Edition Blu-ray releases. Dubbed the ‘Appendices’, these contained hours and hours of behind-the-scenes footage, documentaries, interviews, art, and more, and are some of the greatest special features ever made. Even The Hobbit got the same treatment, giving frank and clear insight into how the production of that trilogy went. Instead, here are all the extras included in the Middle-Earth Ultimate Collector’s Edition:

• The original Cannes Film Festival presentation reel

• Footage from the recent Alamo Drafthouse cast reunions

• A 30-40 minute “special feature” on each of the three Lord of the Rings movies

…and we’re done! That’s the list! Oh, and by the way? The three commentary tracks per movie found on the original Blu-rays? Those are missing, too. What the Middle-Earth Ultimate Collector’s Edition does have is a big box with some nice art, separate arts cards, and “a 64-page booklet featuring costumes, photography, and production notes from the film.” You can see all of the set’s wonders in the 37-second video above.

We’ve reached out to Warner Bros. Home Entertainment about why this set has left all those marvelous extras behind, and will update this when/if we receive a response. For now, though, the Middle-Earth Ultimate Collector’s Edition will run you $249.99, and is due out October 26.

10 Movies We Really Hope to See in 2021

Guillermo del Toro has a new film coming out.

Guillermo del Toro has a new film coming out.
Photo: Warner Bros.

It’s easy to get excited for anything director Guillermo del Toro does and his new film, Nightmare Alley, fits that bill. Though it’s likely a bit more grounded than most of his other films (it’s about grifters at a carnival), the cast alone (it stars Cate Blanchett, Bradley Cooper, Rooney Mara, Toni Collette, and Willem Dafoe, to name a few) has us raring to go. The problem is, we have yet to see any official images, posters, trailers, anything—so it seems like it would be very easy to shift it around, though it does feel like Oscar bait, which might keep it on the schedule. Current release date: December 3

Warner Bros. Lets Anyone Be in Its Reminiscence Trailer With a Cool New Deepfake Generator

Warner Bros. Has Launched a Deepfake Campaign for Reminiscence

You can check out the example trailer Protocol made with the generator on YouTube. It’s pretty crazy to see how lifelike the expressions on the deepfake are and mind-blowing that D-ID managed to create that with just one photo.

If this tech looks a little familiar, that’s because this isn’t D-ID’s first eye-catching deepfake tool. The startup made headlines back in February with its “Deep Nostalgia” service, which allowed people to animate old photos of their deceased relatives, developed for the company MyHeritage. The tool was later updated to allow users to choose from a variety of movements and expressions, such as smiles, a compassionate look, and kisses.

Five weeks after Deep Nostalgia’s debut, MyHeritage announced that more than 72 million photos had been animated using the Deep Nostalgia tool. In addition to old family photos and movie trailers, D-ID is also working on partnering with museums to create deepfake videos of artists talking about their work.

Protocol pointed out that what makes D-ID’s AI unique is its ability to work with just one photo. The company’s competitors often need various videos and photos to train their AI solutions to create deepfake videos.

In the future, D-ID wants AI to be able to replace actors, CEO Gil Perry told the outlet. However, the tech isn’t there yet and achieving that goal might take a couple more years.

“Our long-term vision is to create full productions using AI,” Perry said.

To his credit, Perry also acknowledged one of my worries about deepfake technology. He told Protocol that the company is looking into ways to make sure its deepfakes aren’t used for manipulation and harassment. Only time will tell if the company actually follows through on this.

Titans

Curran Walters spoke to TV Line about Jason Todd’s new career as Red Hood in the third season of Titans.

Red Hood, man…. Where do I start? Jason’s mission this season is to get rid of this fear that he has, and the only way that he feels he can conquer this fear is by, in a way, hitting back as a Titan but with a different outcome — if that makes sense. Throughout this season, there’s a lot of finding who he is as a character.

It’s obviously not something you want as a superhero family. The other Titans try to figure out what to do with Red Hood the whole season, and that’s a great dynamic of the show — exploring the relationships these characters have with Jason and now the ‘new’ Jason.

Peacemaker

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, James Gunn stated Peacemaker was his top choice for a spinoff series becauseunlike the rest of the castthe character “is a douche and he stays a douche and he’s an asshole in the movie.”

Well, I think that it’s a number of things. In the movie… Harley gets a really complete story about herself, she gets a complete arc. Bloodsport gets a complete story. Rick Flag gets a complete story. Ratcatcher 2 gets a complete story. They all learn something about themselves — sometimes good things, sometimes bad things — but Peacemaker is a douche and he stays a douche and he’s an asshole in the movie.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Meanwhile, actress Indira Varma described the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series as “an octopus that needs wrangling, however, “there are no fraying tempers” on set.

It’s such a beast, like an octopus that needs wrangling but I’m having a brilliant time. Obviously, I can’t say anything about any of it but director Deborah Chow and Ewan on the acting side have somehow made it feel like an independent movie. Everyone has input, there are no fraying tempers.
